Will Lutterbach and Cotruta put on a grappling masterclass or a stand-up war at BRAVE CF 68?

BRAVE CF 68’s main event has caugh the eye of the hardcore fans, as Joilton Lutterbach and Mihail Cotruta both have complete fighting styles that could mean  a grappling masterclass or a stand-up war when they meet BRAVE Combat Federation’s interim Super Lightweight world title next Saturday, December 17th in Dusseldorf, Germany.

This is a layered battle with reputation and legacy at stake as two global combat sports forces will collide. Adding to that, the age-old battle between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Combat Sambo rears its head once again. In recent times Combat Sambo has imposed its superiority over Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in MMA, with several Sambo representatives beating BJJ fighters.

With Lutterbach being a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and Cotruta a World Combat Sambo bronze medalist and a Master of Sports in Combat Sambo, BRAVE Nation fans can rest assured that neither of these athletes will want to lay shame on their respective grappling and wrestling backgrounds. With Lutterbach also being a black belt in Judo and Luta-livre, it makes for an ever more compelling ground battle, and it will be interesting to see whether Cotruta can blanket and subdue the wide-spread artillery of his Brazilian opponent - who has 13 submissions on record.

The stand-up element adds even more spice to this match-up, with both contenders equally sufficient in their striking as in their ground and grappling game. BRAVE CF’s number-one ranked Super Lightweight Lutterbach is a six-promotion multi-division MMA champion and a two-promotion K-1 champion. He has amassed 26 knockouts in his career. And his striking prowess was showcased in his BRAVE CF debut when he shut down the former number-one ranked Super Lightweight, Marcel Grabinski, at BRAVE CF 61 in August.

Lutterbach is such a student of the game that when he is not inside the MMA cage, he is refining his skill set in other disciplines. Since his BRAVE CF debut, he partook in Muay Thai and Kickboxing fights, where he secured two wins against Slovakia’s Sebastian Fapso and the Netherlands’ Mark Trijsburg, respectively.

On paper, Cotruta may be known for his Combat Sambo accolades, but it’s impossible to reduce his qualities as a fighter to this accomplishment. He’s also a heavy-handed striker, having nine KOs in his 14 professional MMA wins. Even when the number-two ranked BRAVE CF Super Lightweight beats his opponents by submission it’s his hands that lead the way - just as what happened at BRAVE CF 60.

He almost knocked out former Lightweight champion Luan Santiago, one of the best strikers in BRAVE CF history, before locking in an arm triangle for the submission victory, reiterating just how dangerous he is as a complete fighter. Cotruta has the ability to break down your strengths and weaknesses before formulating his plan to neutralize you, be it with his stand-up or ground game. He is no fan of working overtime, and his transitioning and level change is something to be admired.

So the question remains, will it be a stand-up war or a gladiatorial grappling masterclass as these fighters battle for a shot at the undisputed 165-pound champion, Eldar Eldarov?
