Sambo world champion Alkhasov announces permanent move to BRAVE CF Bantamweight division
Velimurad Alkhasov had a taste of life at Bantamweight in his last outing and is now making his move to 135 pounds a permanent one. Seen as one of the best Flyweights in the world, the sambo world champion is now an active part of BRAVE Combat Federation’s ever-growing Bantamweight division, headed by world champion Nkosi Ndebele.
The Russian fighter is no stranger to 135 pounds with his last fight having taken place in the division. At BRAVE CF 71, Alkhasov beat Nicholas Hwende, while he was still waiting for Ali Bagautinov’s situation to resolve so they could meet for the inaugural Flyweight world championship. After that win, he was then scheduled to face Edilceu Alves for the 125-pound title, after Bagautinov withdrew from the tournament.
This time, however, Alkhasov was the one that ended up having to withdraw from the title fight, and he has now started off 2024 with a new mindset and looking for the world title at 135 pounds. In a simple message through his social media accounts, Velimurad said he was looking forward to fighting for the belt soon.
He might have to wait until his teammate at KHK Team Bahrain, Jose Torres, gets another crack at the reigning champ. Nkosi and Torres have each won one fight against the other, with the former champion heavily campaigning for the first trilogy in BRAVE CF history.
Ndebele has spoken in the past about being open to defending the world title against Torres but has since questioned if ‘’Shorty’’ is really deserving of another shot, given the way the second fight between the pair panned out.
That could open the door for Velimurad Alkhasov, who has a win over Hwende, one of the highest-ranked 135-pounders, who’s coming off a huge win over Tajikistan’s Mutolibsho Akobirov, and is very much in the mix as well for a title fight soon.
