Kickboxing World Champion Ilias Bulaid took a huge risk when he decided to transition to MMA, leaving behind a successful kickboxing career and now, as he prepares for his BRAVE CF debut at BRAVE CF 89 in Spain, Bulaid has the opportunity to see his gamble pay off.
Raised in the Netherlands, a country known for its strong kickboxing roots, Bulaid began training in the sport at a young age and eventually became a World Champion. Despite his success, he chose to step out of his comfort zone and transition to MMA, starting from scratch by learning grappling and wrestling. The transition required him to humble himself and return to the basics, which he did.
Bulaid’s kickboxing skills and hard work helped him adapt quickly to MMA. He won his debut fight in the first round with a knee strike from the clinch, showcasing his striking prowess. He then secured four more wins, three by decision, proving that his initial victory was not a fluke.
Now, as he prepares to face Anthony Riggio at BRAVE CF 89, Bulaid is set for the toughest challenge of his MMA career. This fight not only offers global exposure but also a chance to prove himself against an experienced opponent with a BJJ black belt. A win at BRAVE CF 89 would validate Bulaid's decision to switch to MMA and mark the beginning of his pursuit of an MMA world title.
BRAVE CF 89 takes place on October 19 at Pabellon Santiago Martin in Tenerife, Spain, in association with Fight2One. The event will be headlined by a Super Welterweight title fight between champion Kamal Magomedov and Brazilian contender Luiz Cado.
