KHK World Championship: Registration closed, Hundreds of fighters enrolled
Including combat sports world champions, veterans and future stars signed up, BRAVE CF and KHK MMA have finished the first step of the KHK World Championship, as the subscriptions stage came to an end on October 10th. After receiving hundreds of applications from fighters around the world, the organizations have now assembled a special committee which will study all registered athletes and make a decision on the ten-man shortlist going into the final draw for semifinal pairings.
Names like BRAVE CF fighters Mohammad Fakhreddine and Khamzat Chimaev have signed up to take part in the open-weight tournament, which will have a US$ 100,000 prize to the winner, plus the right to be called the first-ever KHK World Champion and the current holder of the KHK World Championship belt, the most prestigious prize in sports, with 6.2 kg of gold. In order to get definite possession of the belt, a fighter must win the tournament three straight times or five times alternatively.
Aside from Fakhreddine and Chimaev, other notable names have also put themselves in the running for the KHK World Championship, such as Heavyweights Gilbert Yvel, Josh Copeland and Fabio Maldonado, as well as kickboxing sensation Guto Inocente, and other lighter weight fighters and household names, like Cole Miller and Jeremy Kennedy.
The final draw, which will pair four of the ten-shortlisted names plus one alternate, will take place on October 15th, the same date in which the semifinal pairings will be decided and announced. The tournament takes place at BRAVE CF 29, on November 15th, during the BRAVE International Combat Week, the largest combat sports festival in Asia.
