Kamil shares details of training with Kubanychbek as they prepare to face off in BRAVE CF 69 main event

Saturday, February 18th may be the first time BRAVE CF interim champion Abdisalam Kubanychbek and number-one contender Kamil Magomedov come face to face inside the BRAVE CF arena, but these two athletes are more than well-acquainted. Kubanychbek and Magomedov will compete for the undisputed BRAVE CF Lightweight title at BRAVE CF 69 in Belgrade, Serbia but they have shared the mats on several occasions in the past.
Both athletes have come a long way and will now own the main event slot in the headline show of the BRAVE Serbia International Combat Week - the largest mixed martial arts event to take place in Europe. Before signing with BRAVE Combat Federation in 2021, Dagestan's Magomedov had been a keen admirer of Kubanychbek, who was, by then, well on his way to build a notorious reputation with three stoppage wins inside the most global MMA cage.
During his camp for BRAVE CF 57, Kubanychbek traveled to Dagestan to further improve his game, and it was the perfect opportunity for Magomedov to test himself against one of the best Lightweights in the world. Kamil also had a fight set for that event, so they trained together extensively before becoming foes.
“Before signing the contract with BRAVE Combat Federation, I followed Kubanychbek as he was an interesting fighter who I liked. He then came to Dagestan for a training camp, before BRAVE CF 57. As a fighter who yearns to be the best, you desire to compete against the best, and I had the desire to test myself against him,” says the number-three ranked BRAVE CF Lightweight Magomedov “We wrestled and sparred, and that is how we came to know each other as fighters,” added KHK Team Bahrain’s grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach.
Both fighters have shown mutual respect and competitive edge in the lead-up to their much-anticipated fight. While the former Taekwondo specialist Magomedov was happy to elaborate on Kubanychbek’s strengths, he played his cards very close to his chest when referring to the Kyrgyz’ weaknesses.
“Look, he is a good fighter. His strengths are his endurance and the ability to keep a high pace in the fight. As for his weaknesses, I won’t say it before the time. I will show it in the cage on February 18,” said one of the most well-rounded athletes in the division, who mixes up his stand-up and ground game beautifully.
Since training with Magomedov, Kubanychbek has also been intrigued by his Dagestani counterpart's approach. Despite identifying holes in Magomedov's game, Kubanychbek appreciates his opponent's thinking around mixed martial arts. “Kamil is a good fighter. He has won many fights. I am very interested in his skills and tactics. The variety of skills he will offer and how to deal with his strengths, weaknesses, and tactics inside the cage intrigues me. He is well-trained. BRAVE CF 69 is headlined by the Lightweight unification title bout and will have a huge Heavyweight bout as the co-main event. Darko Stosic returns to action in his home country of Serbia for the first time since 2017 as he takes on undefeated IMMAF African, Asian, and European champion Shamil Gaziev. In total, fighters from 12 nations will be in action in the event that headlines the BRAVE Serbia International Combat Week.
