Jose ‘Shorty’ Torres has waited a long time for his chance to become world champion, and next weekend, his moment will finally arrive.
For many years now, Jose Torres has been one of the faces of BRAVE Combat Federation. From media obligations to what he’s produced in the cage, many have felt as if it’s only a matter of time until he lifts that championship belt high.
Some fans will remember him for his days in the Ultimate Fighting Championship but when you take a look at his career as a whole, BRAVE has been his spiritual home. Ever since signing for the promotion, he’s been able to accumulate three wins with one draw to his name - with all of the fights in question going to the judges’ scorecards.
That isn’t to say he can’t finish fights, though, with two submissions and four knockouts on his record since making his professional debut in 2016 with Titan FC.
He was a force of nature over there and he’s carried that reputation forward ever since. His best moments in the sunshine came at flyweight and he’s still ranked as one of the top five 125-pounders on the planet, but it’s time to ascend to new heights at bantamweight.
His spirited personality, of course, can’t be forgotten either. This is a man who has never been afraid to speak his mind and he’ll never shy away from putting his heart out there for all to see. When BRAVE rolls into Bogota, he won’t be afraid of a single thing - which is why so many have positioned him as the favourite.
Will he live up to the hype? Only time will tell.
BRAVE CF 73 takes place on August 12, at the Coliseo El Salitre, in Bogota, Colombia. The main event of the evening will see the vacant Bantamweight World Title on the line as Jose “Shorty” Torres takes on Nkosi “The Future” Ndebele.
