Hometown hero Denis Maher eager for his big international breakthrough at BRAVE CF
Only a few professional Mixed Martial Artists, from the thousands and thousands that fight every single week all over the world, have the chance to compete at the international level.
The moment of joining the big leagues is one very special for a fighter and usually it can take dozens of fights before coming. Denis Maher is an exception in different ways. At age 26, and going to his 8th professional fight, the Minsk-born athlete is ready for his big international breakthrough at BRAVE CF 51: The Future Is Here, on June 4th.
But that’s not by chance. In fact, Maher was on the radar for the BRAVE CF scouting team for a while, as he’s been completely dominating the local Belarus scene and has a strong amateur record, which includes an Amateur European Championship gold medal and becoming the only Belarusian hand to hand combat world champion.
Maher, a hometown hero in the Belarusian capital, will now have the chance to hit international stardom in front of his people, in the biggest international MMA event ever held in his country.
That moment did not come without a few bumps on the road, though. Originally scheduled to face Giannis Bachar, Maher then saw his Greek opponent being replaced by Sweden’s Fernando Gonzalezr, who also ended up being scrapped from the card.
At last, after two changes, Denis Maher will now face the undefeated Kazakh young star Rinat Sagyntay, who holds a professional record of 9 wins and no losses.
Denis Maher vs Rinat Sagyntay will serve as the co-main event of the evening for the BRAVE CF fight night, which will be headlined by the Lightweight bout between Lucas “Mineiro” Martins and Marcel Grabinski.
