BRAVE Combat Federation is set to break new ground in the world of mixed martial arts, proudly announcing that it will host the professional debut of Georgian judo legend Beka Gviniashvili.

The decorated Olympian is slated to compete at BRAVE CF: GEORGIA VS. THE WORLD on Friday, October 3, inside the Tbilisi New Sports Palace, marking both his MMA debut and BRAVE CF’s first-ever event in the country.

Gviniashvili will lock horns with Azerbaijan’s Farid Mirzabekov in a middleweight showdown on a blockbuster card that will serve as a centerpiece attraction of BRAVE International Combat Week, held in partnership with Georgian Fighting Championship (GFC).

A national icon in his home country, the 29-year-old judoka represented Georgia at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he finished seventh in the men’s 100-kilogram division.

His résumé extends far beyond the Summer Games, boasting a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships, gold at the 2017 European Championships, and another gold at the 2023 European Games.

He has also stood atop the podium at four different IJF Grand Slam tournaments (2016, 2019, 2022, 2023), and was a two-time World Junior Champion in 2013 and 2015.

“Beka Gviniashvili is a national hero and a world-class athlete who has already made history for Georgia in judo,” said BRAVE CF President Mohammed Shahid. “To have him begin his MMA journey at BRAVE CF, and to do so in front of his home fans during our debut in Georgia, is truly special.”

For Gviniashvili, the chance to compete at home during this new chapter of his athletic career is a moment of pride.

“I want to thank BRAVE Combat Federation for giving me this incredible opportunity to start my MMA career on such a big stage, and in my home country of Georgia,” he stated.

Gviniashvili now joins a growing list of Olympians who have crossed over into mixed martial arts, becoming only the second Olympian to compete under the BRAVE CF banner after Egypt’s rising star Mahmoud Sebie.

Shahid emphasized how the move reflects BRAVE CF’s mission of empowering global talent.

“This is what BRAVE CF is about – giving world-class athletes a global platform. We are honored to host his first step into this new chapter,” Shahid expressed.

The Georgian standout, for his part, vowed to leave everything inside the cage.

“I have dedicated my life to competition, and now I am ready for this new challenge. On October 3, I will give everything for my fans and my nation,” Gviniashvili declared.

With the pride of a nation behind him, Gviniashvili’s clash with Mirzabekov promises to be one of the most electrifying highlights of BRAVE CF’s much-awaited foray into Georgia.
