Bahraini Heavyweight star Shamil Gaziev is oozing confidence ahead of his colossal clash with Serbian legend Darko Stosic at BRAVE CF 69 on February 18th in Belgrade, Serbia. The bout will serve as the co-main event of the evening, as BRAVE CD 69 headlines the BRAVE Serbia International Combat Week, the biggest combat sports festival in European history.
When Gaziev first heard the news of a possible five-round BRAVE CF Heavyweight title fight, he immediately told his coach and KHK Team Bahrain teammate, Eldar Eldarov, that Stosic would not accept a five-round fight. “When I called him to inform him about this fight, first it was to talk about a title fight, five rounds. I told him, ‘Listen, there is this guy Darko … watch his fight and let me know what you think, five rounds'. "He then called me back and said, ‘Eldar, I don't think this guy will accept five rounds with me. But I am ready “Gaziev was not sure that this guy would accept five rounds with him,” said the amused BRAVE CF Super Lightweight champion.
“This is how confident this guy is,” added Eldarov. In the end, a three-round fight was agreed upon. “BRAVE CF called us to confirm that it was changed to three rounds even though Shamil was ready for five rounds. "Shamil then called me and said ‘Eldar, I told you he will not accept five rounds with me", laughed Eldarov, who admitted the decision to change the bout had nothing to do with Darko. “I know it was not Darko’s decision to move it to three rounds, it was contractual issues, but in Shamil’s mind, Darko did not accept the five-round option.
"Make no mistake, even in three rounds, we will get him,” warns Eldarov.
Gaziev is unbeaten since turning professional and looks to go 2-0 in BRAVE Combat Federation following a successful debut at BRAVE CF 65. Stosic makes his promotional debut and will step into the BRAVE CF cage with lots of hype around him after fighting in various well-known promotions. With a record of 17-5, the well-traveled Stosic is the more experienced campaigner - fighting some of the best athletes inside the cage and currently holding a top-3 place in the Polish and Eastern Europe Heavyweight rankings.
Gaziev had a legendary amateur run, winning the African, Asian, and European IMMAF championships, and earning a bronze medal at the Worlds. Since turning pro, he has continued to run through competition with nine wins in as many outings. Gaziev is coming off an impressive second-round KO in his BRAVE CF debut, a win that earned him a nomination for 2022 KO of The Year at the BRAVE CF End of Year awards.
The main event of BRAVE CF 69 is a Lightweight world championship unification bout between Kyrgyzstan’s Abdisalam Kubanychbek (interim champion) and Russia’s Kamil Magomedov, who will both look to claim the undisputed 155-pound title.
BRAVE CF 69 will host fighters from more than nine nations - including Serbia, France, Saudi Arabia, Croatia, Poland, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belgium, Egypt, Bahrain, and more - in what will be the culmination of the epic BRAVE CF Serbia International Combat week, the biggest combat sports festival in the continent, with the highest level of government support and billed as a historic moment for mixed martial arts in Europe.
