BRAVE Combat Federation served Serbian MMA fans a tasty starter as fighters warmed up and stared down their opponents in Belgrade in preparation for the main course, BRAVE CF 69, which takes place this Saturday, February 18th, in Belgrade. The official Open Workout for the organization’s first fight card in 2023 was met with several cheers from a huge crowd that took over the TC Galerija Mall, in Belgrade.
BRAVE CF 69 will close out the colossal BRAVE Serbia International Combat Week in the Stark Arena, and fighters could not contain their excitement at the open workout session this evening. A handful of fighters, including Serbia’s Jovan Marjanovi?, Aleksandar Terzi?, Aleksandar Ili?, Darko Stosic, Bahrain’s Shamil Gaziev, and Egypt’s Mahmoud Sebie, entertained and captivated the fans as they ran through drills and combinations ahead of the first BRAVE Combat Federation card of 2023.
Egypt’s former Olympic wrestler and BRAVE CF breakout star Sebie stole the hearts of the thousands of Serbian fans in attendance when he brought an enthusiastic young boy onto the stage to “spar” and “train” with him before handing him a Mahmoud Sebie T-shirt and raising his hand to which the fans responded in an endearing fashion.
One of the most intense moments of the night was when Serbian superstar Stosic lined up against Bahrain’s Shamil Gaziev ahead of their colossal Heavyweight co-main bout. It was the first time these two behemoths came face to face, and the size difference was quite evident as Gaziev towered above his Serbian opponent. While the staredown was intense, there was never a lack of respect shown at that moment as both warriors greeted each other and their respective camps. They were joined on stage by BRAVE CF Super Lightweight champion Eldar Eldarov, Gaziev’s coach, and legendary jiu-jitsu fighter Renzo Gracie, who represented Team Serbia.
During his open workout session, Stosic emphasized his grappling and judo as he ran through takedowns and submissions. Stosic's intent was so obvious, it was as if he aimed to send a subliminal message to Gaziev, who had much to say about the Serb’s all-around fighting ability this past week.
There was an all-around spirit of respect and competitiveness from all athletes at the BRAVE CF 69 open workout, an experience that set the perfect tone for the fans ahead of the much-anticipated fight card. BRAVE CF 69 will be headlined by interim Lightweight champion Abdisalam Kubanychbek and Kamil Magomedov as they compete for the undisputed 155-pound title
