BRAVE CF champion Brad Katona on contender Gamzat’s resume: Im the best hes ever fought

Oct 17, 2022

news

BRAVE CF Bantamweight champion, Brad Katona is going ‘all-in’ on his BRAVE CF 63 title fight against number-one ranked Bahraini Gamzat Magomedov. This Wednesday, October 19th, in leg one of the iconic Kombat Kingdom series, Katona will make his first title defense after beating Magomedov’s teammate, Hamza Kooheji at BRAVE CF 57 and he is ready to once again put it all on the line. For ‘’Superman’’, the facts speak for themselves.

‘’It’s not trash talk, it’s the truth. Is Gamzat the best fighter I’ve ever fought? We’ll see. I’ve beaten some pretty good guys, from Bryce Mitchell to Borislav Nikolic and Hamza Kooheji. Am I the best fighter he’s ever fought? Absolutely’’, said Katona, who is going all-in on himself on Wednesday’s showdown.

“I may not be a betting man in the traditional sense, but I bet on myself every time I enter the cage for a fight. I am all-in on me. I am pushing all my chips to the table,” says the Canadian who encourages those who have a taste for gambling to do the same. “If I am a betting man, how do I bet? Well, me. Nothing’s new here. I am always all-in. “And if anybody should bet on this fight, they should bet on me. ‘Why?’ Well, just look at my record.”

An athlete with an extremely high fight IQ, Katona is unbeaten at BRAVE Combat Federation. The SBG Ireland representative sits atop the BRAVE Combat Federation Bantamweight division, leading a row of killers following wins over Borislav Nikoli?, Bair Shtepin and Kooheji, respectively. Reflecting on his journey thus far, Katona is proud of his achievements as he has successfully implemented his plans in BRAVE CF, however, the champion is far from complacent.

“Looking back on the past year-and-a-half, pretty much my whole BRAVE CF journey, I feel quite proud because I did what I set out to do. I said I am going to fight the toughest guys and eventually claim the Bantamweight title. I have done that and I am going to continue doing that. It’s been quite the journey, and there is no slowing down here.”

Katona’s opponent, Magomedov - who is riding a five-fight win streak - is renowned for pushing the pace and getting extra physical with his high-level wrestling. His grip-strength and clinch work are things of beauty as he slowly breaks down his opponents, forcing them to wilt and bend to his will, however, Katona is excited about matching the KHK Team Bahrain star’s pace before reminding him why he is the champion.

“I match up very well with Gamzat. He’s another tough fighter from KHK (Team Bahrain) that I’ll be fighting. He has heavy hands and good wrestling. But I am just a different animal. The level of refinement, my decision-making in the cage, those are next level and what make me a 1-of-1 athlete. There’s not many like me and I am excited to show the world what I have been up to in training camp these past seven months.”

Katona’s fighting style is testament of his predatorial and mathematical approach as 91 percent of his wins come either by submission or via long drawn-out dominating decisions. Heading into his first fight as BRAVE CF Bantamweight champion ‘title’ and ‘defense’ are the two furthest words from his vocabulary.

‘’My approach with this is purely offensively-minded. It’s to go and take the belt from Gamzat (Magomedov). I am not defending anything. I might be the BRAVE CF champion, but I am in the exact same position I was when I was fighting for the title. It is simple, if I don’t win, I am not the world champion. So every time I step in there, it’s with the goal of taking it from them. And when I bring that, I am a hungry fighter, not a defensive fighter.”
