BRAVE CF Awards: champions and surging contenders on the hunt for Fighter of The Year

Jan 07, 2024

news

BRAVE Combat Federation’s 2023 end-of-year awards now have all of its nominees known to the public. After a week-long unveiling process, the last category is now public knowledge, with Fighter of The Year nominees announced, once again with four fighters from four different countries, highlighting the organization's truly global reach.

Leading the way are world champions Nkosi Ndebele and Abdisalam Kubanychbek. The South-African Bantamweight king had a huge 2023, which actually kicked off with a controversial decision loss in a vacant 135-pound world title fight against Jose Torres. However, the fans demanded an immediate rematch which took place at the end of the year and Ndebele put on one of the greatest performances in BRAVE CF history to completely dominate the former champion and earn himself title honors.

Another man who ended 2023 at the top was Abdisalam Kubanychbek. The Lightweight titleholder finally unified the championship against Kamil Magomedov at BRAVE CF 69 and ended the year knocking out former champion Lucas Martins. Since Martins didn’t make weight, Kubanychbek has not defended his belt officially, something he’s looking forward to in the new year.

Pavel Dailidko had a historical 2023, as the Lithuanian Heavyweight became the first man to earn three KO victories in the same calendar year, which is more than enough to put him as one of the contenders for Fighter of The Year.

Finally, Super Welterweight contender Luiz Cado captured the imagination of Brazilian and worldwide fans with two huge submission victories in 2023, as he headlined his first show – BRAVE CF 78. In Fortaleza, Brazil, Cado put on yet another huge show by earning a beautiful kneebar victory over Vernon Ramos, which also put him as a candidate for Submission of The Year.
