In a dramatic turn of events, BRAVE CF 66 will now have a new main event following the news of Magomed Idrisov’s withdrawal from the Indonesian event this month. The Bahraini star was set to face Kazakhstan’s Asu Almabaev in a pivotal Flyweight fight, but has been forced to drop out due to an undisclosed injury.
The original BRAVE CF 66 co-main event between South Africa’s Chad Hanekom and South Korea’s In Jae La will now slot in as the main event as these two athletes fight for a spot in the vacant 185-pound BRAVE CF Championship fight.
Following Idrisov’s withdrawal, in steps the Philippines’ Kenneth “Smooth” Maningat. "Smooth" has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his name known in the most-global MMA platform in the world. A protege of former BRAVE CF star, Rolando Dy, Maningat makes his BRAVE CF debut in Bali, Indonesia this month.
He is unbeaten on the amateur and professional circuits. On the pro scene, he is riding a six-fight win streak. His latest win came in August when he secured a first-round technical knockout over his compatriot Mark Oliva. Fighting under the tutelage of Dy at DyIncredible FFC, “Smooth” is a well-rounded athlete with a good ground game and respectable stand-up as 66 percent of his wins have come via stoppages - two KO/TKOs and two submission wins.
He will face one of BRAVE CF’s top 125-pounders, number-three-ranked BRAVE CF Flyweight Almabaev. Almabaev had an unforgettable 2021. His rear-naked choke victory over Aleksander Doslkalchuk back at BRAVE CF 53 earned him two BRAVE CF Awards: Submission of the Year and Breakthrough Fighter of the Year.
This year, Almabaev extended his winning streak with two more victories, beating Imram Magaramov at BRAVE CF 57 and then collecting the biggest win of his mixed martial arts career by edging Zach Makovsky at BRAVE CF 60. Almabaev is widely recognized as one of the top Flyweights in the world and ranked number one in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and the Middle East.
He now looks to take a step closer to a Flyweight title fight with a win over the dangerous BRAVE CF newcomer Maningat. BRAVE CF 66 takes place on November 26th as the world’s fastest-growing MMA organization returns to Indonesia after a four-year hiatus
