The last few years have been tough on BRAVE CF star Jose “Shorty” Torres. In 2019, just days before his BRAVE CF Flyweight title fight he had learnt of his father’s passing. The news rattled him to the core and had further burdened Torres, who ended up out of the fight against Marcel Adur at BRAVE CF 29.
The next three years would then become a tumultuous and frustrating time for the American as Covid-19 further delayed his title aspirations. Almost two years later, weight-cutting issues then hindered his chances at a BRAVE CF belt when he withdrew from the semi-final of the BRAVE CF Bantamweight Flyweight tournament due to his inability to make 125 pounds.
That came on the heels of two fights, as he first drew with Sean Santella, and then beat Blaine O’Driscoll, showing flashes of his brilliant takedown defense and boxing.
Fast-forward to 2022, Shorty is back in the mix, however, this time around he looks to rebuild his brand in the BRAVE CF Bantamweight division. And Shorty’s new campaign starts against Jordan's MMA superstar, Izzedine Al-Derbani in the co-main event of BRAVE CF 65.
While Torres remains unbeaten in the Flyweight division, the number-five ranked Flyweight has left BRAVE CF fans with a case of “what if?” considering that he has come so close to fighting for the title on two occasions without being defied in the 125-pound division.
He has however accepted his fate and will move up a division to prove his class in efforts of claiming a new belt - the BRAVE CF Bantamweight title.
With a new lease on life, a mentally and physically healthier Shorty now steps into a shark tank of Bantamweights that include Brad Katona (the champion), Gamzat Magomedov, Alexander Keshtov and more …
Being a former Titan FC two-division champion, at both Flyweight and Bantamweight, and coming so close to winning the BRAVE CF Flyweight title, these big Bantamweight names will only further motivate the highly competitive Shorty as he has never shied away from tough competition and has proven his pedigree in the cage thus far.
A win for Shorty will not only put the division on notice, but it will also be a token of closure after turning a new leaf as he finds his way back to the light after losing the man who was the sole reason he fought.
