What started as a cordial exchange and show of respect between two of the world’s best Bantamweight stars has become a heated rivalry after Nkosi “The Future” Ndebele took aim at Jose “Shorty” Torres this past week on social media. Torres beat Ndebele in a tightly contested fight via split decision (49-45, 49-47, 47-48) to earn the vacant BRAVE CF Bantamweight belt at BRAVE CF 73 in Bogota, Colombia, last month.
While the judges’ decision left Ndebele disappointed and in shock, he received some consolation as Torres immediately confirmed in his post-fight speech that he “looked forward to getting a rematch” with Ndebele, considering how well the South African did over five rounds. Ndebele and the thousands of fans who felt that he had won the championship contest have constantly been sending out reminders to BRAVE Combat Federation about the much-deserved rematch until a recent BRAVE CF Instagram post of the champion set the number-one contender off.
The post - which included a pic of the champion with his belt followed by a caption asking: “Who’s next?” was not well received by Ndebele, who replied with a few barbs aimed at the USA’s BRAVE CF champion. “Jose Torres is a fake champion, people. I won that fight. He knows it, and he knows I deserve the rematch,” said Ndebele on his IG account. “The more I rewatch the fight, the more pissed I get at the result. The man is overrated! People are talking about how strong he is, and that I came in much heavier than him. That’s not true. He is weak. He is highly overrated! BRAVE Combat Federation, I want that rematch."
"I know that all the Future Citizens and all the BRAVE Nation fans want to see the rematch because they want a real Bantamweight champion. A true champion and that is me, right here,” said Ndebele, who did well to do damage from range with his striking and stuffed many of Torres’ takedown attempts over the 25 minutes.
“I am the real BRAVE CF Bantamweight champion of the world. It’s crazy, though, because I am a champion with no belt. But some people are not champions and have belts … Can you imagine that? "This life is unfair, people. The scorecard was just ridiculous, and unfortunately, the game was unfair to me that night,” added Ndebele.
