Kubanychbek is the Khabib of Kyrgyzstan - BRAVE CF president Mohammed Shahid

BRAVE Combat Federation President Mohammed “The Hawk” Shahid has offered BRAVE CF interim Lightweight champion Abdisalam Kubanychbek the ultimate compliment after he compared the Kyrgyz to one of the greatest fighters in MMA history.

The number one male fighter in Kyrgyzstan is headlining the biggest combat sports festival in European history as he looks to unify the 155-pound world title at BRAVE CF 69, against Russia’s Kamil Magomedov as he looks to continue setting a trail of destruction in his wake, much like Nurmagomedov did in his heydays.

“Abdisalam Kubanychbek, for me, is the Khabib Nurmagomedov of Kyrgyzstan,” said President Shahid in the build-up to BRAVE CF 69, where Kubanychbek looks to unify the 155-pound title against Nurmagomedov’s compatriot and Russia’s Kamil Magomedov in the main event which takes place in Belgrade, Serbia on February 18th.

Dagestan's Nurmagomedov called it a day on his illustrious career with an unbeaten record of 29 wins in 29 fights. He has earned many titles and achievements over the years, and his legend has only grown in recent years. His ruthless grappling and wrestling styles made him the notorious figure he is today, as he put paid to every opponent who stepped before him – a style that has been put forward by Abdisalam Kubanychbek, who has more or less dominated all of his BRAVE Combat Federation opponents thus far, with a mixture of pressure wrestling and never-ending cardio, much like Khabib.

President Shahid – a former MMA fighter himself – has first-hand experience on Nurmagomedov, as they both trained together when the latter was part of KHK Team Bahrain. He believes the mystery around their true strengths is something Khabib and Kubanyhbek share.

“Maybe six or seven years ago, when I had my first training session at KHK Team Bahrain with Khabib, the moment I got into sparring and the clinch with Khabib, that was that. "I’m not going to elaborate more on what happened after that” laughs Shahid. “After that day, I began to tell everybody that you will never know just how good this fighter is ... never! You will never know how good he is until you actually get in there and fight, maybe exchange punches, or get into the clinch. And it is the same with Kubanychbek,” says Shahid

“In any position where you come together, that is where you really know that, ‘’this is not what I expected’. “I don't know what that is. It’s not someone stronger, someone heavier, someone with a better grip, it's something else. There is something there. Maybe it's a combination of all of it,” says Shahid referring to the ability of Khabib and Kubanychbek. “Just like Khabib, Kubanychbek is one of those fighters you will never really know him until you get into the cage and get close to him and start that fight, and the moment you have that first punch of clinch, you will realize that ‘now I know him’ and it might be too late,” added President Shahid.

Kubanychbek - who earned the provisional belt when he beat Olzhas Eskaraev at BRAVE CF 59 - was offered the chance to fight Magomedov. This came after lineal BRAVE CF Lightweight champion Ahmed Amir was stripped of his title due to uncertainty regarding his return to competition.

Nine epic fights await the Stark Arena in Belgrade, Serbia, when BRAVE Combat Federation returns to the Central European nation for the second time following the raging success of BRAVE CF 56 in December 2021.

BRAVE CF 69 will host fighters from more than nine nations - including Serbia, France, Saudi Arabia, Croatia, Poland, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belgium, Egypt, Bahrain, and more - in what will be the culmination of the epic BRAVE CF Serbia International Combat week, the biggest combat sports festival in the continent, with the highest level of government support and billed as a historic moment for mixed martial arts in Europe.
