Fight veteran Lucas “Mineiro” Martins played the perfect villain at BRAVE CF 74 when he broke millions of French hearts after knocking out the hometown star Ylies Djiroun in the main event of the Nantes, France show on Thursday night.
BRAVE CF 74 - in association with leading organization Hexagone MMA - saw the fastest-growing MMA brand make history last week as France became the 29th nation to host BRAVE Combat Federation. The show was a dream come true for many fans as they finally saw their favorite superstars live in the H Arena. The French were hoping for a fairytale ending to the special night when global superstar Martins squared off with Djiroun in the final fight of the night, but the former BRAVE CF Lightweight champion had other plans as he quickly dispatched the submission specialist via TKO (strikes) in the first round of their potential number-one contender bout.
A deafening silence rang throughout the H Arena as the Brazilian celebrated his victory over the Frenchman. To make matters worse, an ecstatic Martins stormed out of the cage to confront former BRAVE CF Lightweight champion Amin Ayoub, who is hailed as a French hero. Martins then stepped into Ayoub’s space and challenged the man, rubbing salt into the wounds of the French fans, who showed their disapproval as boos reverberated through the H Arena.
Martins was then escorted back to the BRAVE CF cage before he thanked BRAVE Combat Federation for another shot at glory, seeking a quick turnaround fight. “Thank you to France and BRAVE Combat Federation for this incredible show. I trained so hard for this fight, and I did so because I want to become the champion of BRAVE Combat Federation again,” said Martins, who has a new lease on life following the birth of his daughter, Clara.
After enduring a rough couple of years, the man is hungry to get back to the top and willing to do what it takes to book a fight with the undisputed champion, Abdisalam Kubanychbek.
“BRAVE CF knows I am the biggest name in the Lightweight division, and I’ll be a great matchup for Kubanychbek. I want to fight before the end of the year again,” concluded Martins.
